The National Examination Council (NECO), has started the implementation of its manpower development plan in order to reposition the organisation and ensure quality service delivery.

The National Examination Council (NECO), has started the implementation of its manpower development plan in order to reposition the organisation and ensure quality service delivery.

According to the examination body, a Ministerial Committee under the Chairmanship of Muhammed Umar, a former Director of Human Resources, Ministry of Education, recommended the manpower development plan.NECO Acting Registrar, Mr. Abubakar Gana, disclosed in a statement that the plan is being implemented through internal postings and transfer of personnel based on their areas of specialisation.

This, he said, would ensure efficiency in the council’s operation.According to him: “With the reforms being implemented, NECO is fast taking its place as a reliable examination body.”He noted that the wave of fraud allegation of about N25billion and alleged illegal recruitment that led to the suspension of Prof Charles Uwakwe, its Registrar and two other deputy directors also necessitated the on-going reforms.

Gana explained that part of the positive results of the rejigging going on in the council is the “easing off pressure mounted on awaiting results candidates by the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB) by releasing its results earlier to beat JAMB deadline.”

Disclosing further, the council noted that the manpower development plan led to an increase in performance of candidates in the 2018 examination compared to the previous years.

According to the body, the industrial dispute that marred the council for many years has also been resolved for interest of the entire system, adding that staff and management have agreed to work together to attain the main objectives of the council.
