A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Femme Lead Africa, is set to empower 5,000 schoolgirls with educational materials to enhance their capacity as they navigate the journey of life.

The project was propelled by the need to have young girls fully equipped for life’s experiences.Part of the materials provided in the empowerment scheme is a book, titled: ‘Dear Girl’, an expository piece that explores critical topics such as puberty management, gender rights, self-esteem, addressing and reporting abuse and career positioning.

The book, containing real stories shared by real women, would serve as a guide for the girls as they progress in life. The founder of the organisation, Ofon Emmanuel, said that female empowerment was a responsibility to ensure the gender is properly equipped to fulfill their dreams.

The schools visited are Government Model Girls School, Abak and Stella Maris Girls College, Ukanafun. Both in Akwa Ibom State and has currently empowered over 500 students.

“We are dedicated to providing the girls and women with capacity-building programmes and initiatives needed to achieve their dreams and overcome challenges that come with being a girl,” she said.

The project would also comprise workshops, mentoring sessions, and other activities aimed at nurturing the skills and self-confidence of the girls. The project has already kicked off with the distribution of the first 5000 copies of the “Dear Girl” book in two secondary schools in Akwa Ibom state.
