Smart, who is also the Group Managing Director of NEM Insurance Plc, had been a board member of AIO’s executive committee and had already expressed his commitment to the aims and objectives of the organisation.
The appointment was made at the recently concluded AIO’s 46th conference and annual general assembly in Johannesburg, South Africa.
AIO, established in 1972, is the biggest insurance body on the African continent, comprising insurance companies from different countries and with the conclusion of the conference in South Africa, Nigeria is the next to host the 47th edition.
Speaking on the preparation of Nigeria to host the conference in year 2020, Smart said activities were already in top gear to make the conference a huge success.
He said, the association was already in discussion with relevant government agencies in the country to ensure that delegates had the best experience when they would be in Nigeria.
