General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Olawale Afolabi, has called on Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), to avoid abusing substances while on the wheels.

He also charged them to be frugal with their financial resources by saving for the rainy day, to avoid the pitfalls that could ruin their future.

Afolabi gave the advice at the Lagos State Zonal Council of PTD Branch of NUPENG, during a national Safety training programme for tanker drivers on steering in the state.

The one-week training was to inculcate and deepen tanker drivers’ knowledge on the culture of minimum safety standards, compliance with traffic rules and road safety signs, as well as eschewing substance abuse and other risky behaviours while driving.

Chief host of the programme and National Chairman of the Branch, Salimon Akanni Oladiti, was applauded for his vision and impactful services to advance PTD cause, as well as safeguarding the economic fortunes of Nigeria, particularly in the petroleum sector value chain, which NUPENG is a critical stakeholder.
