Okowa, others mourn Delta labour leader

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has expressed deep sympathy to the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) Delta State Council, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE) and the Ofoeyeno family over the death of David Ofoeyeno.

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has expressed deep sympathy to the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) Delta State Council, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE) and the Ofoeyeno family over the death of David Ofoeyeno.

In a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Governor Okowa said he was deeply touched by the death of David Ofoeyeno, a well-known and respected labour leader in the state.

Governor Okowa described Ofoeyeno as a personal friend whose invaluable support and contributions to labour movement will be missed by all and sundry.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the demise of a friend and brother, David Ofoeyeno, who until his death was the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC Delta State Council, President Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE), Delta State Council.’’

The statement further urged the Ofoeyeno family to see the death of their beloved patriarch as an act of God, and urged the children of the deceased to emulate the exemplary life of their father and be consoled by the knowledge that their late father lived a worthy and very fulfilled life in the service of his family and organized labour in Delta State.

The Governor prays that God will grant organized labour, the Ofoeyeno family the fortitude to bear the loss of Comrade David Ofoeyeno and prayed God almighty to grant him eternal rest.

On his part, the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Norbert Chiazor expressed shocked saying that the late NLC boss was fair and just in the discharge of his responsibilities, adding: “we are sand by the death of the state NLC boss, we mourn with his family members, a man with large heart, and sincerity of purpose to all, it is unfortunate that death is inevitable.”

Ofoeyeno was elected state NLC leader early last year, but was running his second of term of office as chairman of NULGE, before his demise which has shocked the entire labour movement to its foundation.
