UniAbuja appoints Alawa, Adams deputy VCs

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has approved the appointment of Professor Clement Alawa and Professor Sani Adam as Deputy Vice-Chancellors Academic and Administration respectively.

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has approved the appointment of Professor Clement Alawa and Professor Sani Adam as Deputy Vice-Chancellors Academic and Administration respectively.

A statement by the Registrar, Mrs. Rifkatu Hoshen Swanta said the approval followed their election by the Senate of the University at its 59th Extra-Ordinary meeting  for a period of two years in the first instance.

The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Alawa, a Professor of Animal Production, born on  January 11, 1961 in Bodo-Ogoni, Rivers state is a graduate of Veterinary Medicine from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1988.Professor Alawa holds a Master’s and Doctorate degree in Animal Science from the same University in 1994 and 2003 respectively.  

Professor Alawa started his career as an Assistant Research Fellow at the National Animal Research Institute, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Shika- Zaria between 1989 and 1994, where he rose to the rank of a Principal Research Fellow in 2006 and became of Professor in 2009. He was also at the Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, USA where he spent his Fulbright Fellowship year between 2001 and 2002 before joining the University of Abuja in 2013.  

In the course of his career, Professor   Alawa has had over 70 publications to his credit which include articles in local and foreign journals, chapters in books in addition to conferences he attended locally and abroad where he presented papers.
 
Professor Alawa who was until his appointment a member of the University of Abuja Governing Council and is a member of many professional bodies, including the College of Veterinary Surgeon in Nigeria where he became a Fellow in 2014. Professor Sani Adam, a professor of Environmental Law, who started his career in the academics at the University of Jos, joined the University of Abuja in 2008 but left the University to take up appointment as the pioneer Dean of Law, Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano in 2014. 

He returned to the University of Abuja after a successful tenure at the Police Academy in May 2018.The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) who has about 100 publications to his credit has supervised LLB, LLM & PhD Projects and Dissertations in addition to conferences where he presented papers.
