UniAbuja appoints Prof. Na’ Allah as new VC

The eighth Governing Council of the University of Abuja, has appointed Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah as the sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university.

The new appointment, which was approved during the Council’s 53rd Extra-Ordinary meeting on Friday, June 28, was in line with the first schedule made pursuant to section 2(2) of the enabling Act of the University.
 
A Statement signed by the Chairman of the University of Abuja Governing Council, Sani Maikudi, said the appointment was for a single term of five years effective from Monday, July 1, 2019.

While assuming office, Na’Allah expressed his gratitude to the governing council of the university for the opportunity and pledged to work with all to make a world class University.    

Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, is a Professor of Comparative Literature. He attended University of Ilorin, where he graduated with a B.A. (Ed) English and Education (Upper Second Class) in 1988.   

Na’Allah also obtained Master of Literature in English, in 1992 and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada in 1999.

He was at the Western Illinois University Chicago, USA where he held various positions and was promoted to the professorial rank in 2007. Professor Na’Allah attended several training on Leadership and Educational Administration at Harvard University, Cambridge, between 2009-2015.  

Na’Allah was appointed the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara state University, Malete in 2009, where he served two consecutive terms and was able attract many funds both internal and external including the UNESCO Chair in Alternative Energy in 2011.     

He is also an editorial member of several national and international journals, has 22 books and chapters in books to his credit and has attended over 50 conferences within the country and abroad. He is also member of nine  different Learned Societies such as:  Nigeria Academy of Letters; African Literature Association and the Canadian Comparative Literature Association amongst others.
