To further enhance the skills and talents of young people in the society, organizers of SPANFEST recently kicked-off an intensive 10-day art workshop with over 200 youths in attendance.

The workshop is taking place at Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria (SPAN Hub) and runs from November 7 through 16 this month and showcases fresh music, dance and drama talents.

The training sessions will combine workshops, followed by interactive classes and performance to reveal new understanding and awareness of the community’s historical diversity and culture. Contemporary African and western dance styles like hip-hop, salsa, and ballets will be presented alongside different music genres driven by artistic innovations to produce memorable and breathtaking experiences during the festival.

Seasoned professionals and art professors have partnered with SPANFEST to provide top-notch training sessions with the motive of unveiling new voices in Nigerian artists using different mediums under the watchful eyes of experienced trainers like Mark Kross, Louise Rogers, Ronya Man and Jackson Obinna to mention a few.

During a chat with some of the workshop participants, Olatunji Oladejobi, a male dancer based in Lagos, said, “I find so much joy when dancing. I love what I am doing. SPAN has nurtured us and discovered many talents with so much influence in the entertainment industry today. The theme of the festival – ‘Voice for the Voiceless’ – just goes to show how SPAN is building and changing lives.”

Another young female dancer, Joy Hanson, noted that passion was the motivating factor for her and through dancing she is able to express God given creativity. She applauded the efforts of SPAN for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn new dance moves admit international professionals.

SPAN is a registered non-governmental organization founded in 2004 with the Helen O’Grady franchise in schools. It offers different training classes ranging from Music to Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Jazz, Creative Combo, Drama, Contemporary African, fitness, Naija Craze, Salsa and Latin Ballroom dance for beginners, intermediate and professionals.
