Bariga Art Festival opens tomorrow

This year’s Bariga Open Arts Theatre Festival begins tomorrow. Themed, ‘Bariga is Beautiful’, the theatrical feast will hold in different venues across the community. Bariga Artistes Forum organises it.

Tomorrow, there will be a colloquium at the Bariga LCDA Hall on Bawala Street. Time is 11am-1pm. It is themed, ‘Arts institutions and organisations, developing art communities using Bariga Artistes Forum as a case study’.

At 4pm, there will be an ‘Artistes Hangout’ with theme, ‘Beyond Boundaries’. The event features screening of Yorupa, a dance piece by Qudus Onikeku of the QDance Centre.

On Thursday and Friday, there will be two days creative workshop on performance art. Titled, ‘FUZIONS’, it is a two-hour training in movement — dance and drumming.

Notable professionals in the creative arts industry will lead the workshops. The instructors are, Isioma Williams, Director, Drumsview Koncept; Adedayo Liadi, founder and creative director of Ijodee Art Centre and Qudus Onikeku, artistic director, Qdance Centre Lagos. It will be curated by Obiajulu Sunday.

Face of Bariga, which holds on Friday, is designed to encourage and motivate female art practitioners in the community and every other aspiring female folk. The programme is aimed at mentoring female folks, to promote African culture through afro urban beauty styles and techniques, which will herald commendations and appreciations of legends, celebrities and superstars in showbiz who have been face of Bariga in the creative and cultural arts industry. The event is also aimed at encouraging upcoming artistes as well as discovering and developing more talents and potentials.

The command performance for the theatrical feast is Sunday. The closing performance is Lanke Omú. It is billed for 7pm. Venue is Bariga water jetty front on Ilaje Road.

The command performance is in collaboration with Mainframe Productions led by Tunde Kelani. Segun Adefila of Crown Troupe of Africa will direct ‘Lanke Omu.’
