Toronto International Film Festival Unveils Winners’ List
After 11 days of cinematic magic, moments, and memories, TIFF officially concludes the 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, presented by Rogers, by celebrating the best of the fest with its yearly awards slate. A total of 10 awards were handed out at the awards ceremony, including jury-awarded prizes and the renowned People’s Choice Awards, also presented by Rogers, that signals the official start to awards season.  “As we conclude this year’s Festival and present these 10 awards today, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated juries, our TIFF programmers, and all of the filmmakers who have shared their work with us,” said Cameron Bailey, CEO of TIFF. “Most importantly, I want to thank our audience, who are truly the best in the world. Their passion and enthusiasm bring this festival to life every year, and we couldn’t do it without them. To The Life of Chuck, The Substance, and The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, this year’s winners of the People’s Choice Awards, presented by Rogers, I can’t wait to see the future awards and accolades that await your incredible films.” The 47th edition of TIFF’s People’s Choice Awards, presented by Rogers, has been distinguished as the audience’s top title at the festival as voted by the viewing public. All feature films and series in TIFF’s Official Selection are eligible. People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award presented by Rogers is: The Substance, dir. Coralie Fargeat | United Kingdom/USA/France. The first runner-up is Dead Talents Society, dir. John Hsu | Taiwan.

The second runner-up is Friendship, dir. Andrew DeYoung | USA. People’s Choice Documentary Award presented by Rogers is: The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, dir. Mike Downie | Canada. The first runner-up is: Will & Harper, dir. Josh Greenbaum | USA. The second runner-up is: Your Tomorrow, dir. Ali Weinstein | Canada. People’s Choice Award presented by Rogers is: The Life of Chuck, dir. Mike Flanagan | USA. The first runner-up is: Emilia Pérez, dir. Jacques Audiard | France/USA/Mexico. The second runner-up is: Anora, dir. Sean Baker | USA.

Asaba To Host African Indigenous Language Film Festival
ASABA, the capital of Delta State, is host city for the 2024 edition of the African Indigenous Language Film Festival (Ailff’24). Festival founder, Osezua Stephen Imobhio, disclosed that the Pan African film festival, which debuted in Lagos in 2023, is scheduled to hold from November 20 to 23, 2024, in the coastal film city of Asaba, Delta State. According to Osezua, this year’s festival centers around the theme “Showcasing Africa’s Cultural and Tourism Riches Through Filmmaking,” The former President of the Independent Television Producers Association (ITPAN) stated that the theme aims to celebrate and explore the diverse narratives and tourism potentials that African cinema can uniquely highlight. Osezua also stated that the festival has announced call for entries and that entries will close on November 1,, 2024. Last year, the festival which aims at projecting and furthering the progress of African Indigenous language filmmaking through film screening, training workshops and conferences to proffer lasting solutions to distribution and monetisation challenges of indigenous language film genre, held at the Lagos office of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) and it featured film screenings, panel discussions and networking sessions. It closed with an award ceremony and highlife party at the Freedom Park, Lagos. The festival jury was chaired by Professor Jeremiah Methuselah, the former Rector of the National Film Institute, Jos, Plateau State.

All Is Set For Abuja International Film Festival 2024
ALL is set for the 2024 edition of the festival which holds from October 28 to November 2, 2024. The festival offers a contemporary and liberal platform for the filmmakers across the world to exhibit excellence through the art form of film. The aim is to contribute to the understanding and appreciation of cultures of different nations. The festival accepts short and long content films, documentaries and animations and closes with a grand award ceremony. “Join talents from all over the world in this exciting celebration of filmmaking creativity and excellence’ remarked Festival founder Fidelis Duker who restated that the festival will hold in Abuja as from October 28 to November 2, 2024. The The 20th edition of the Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF) held last year between October 30 and November 3 under the theme ‘Beyond Borders: Globalization and the Film Business’. It featured film screenings, workshops, panel discussions, and training across diverse spaces such as the Silverbird Galleria, Abuja Continental Hotel, Korea Culture Centre, and the Chinese Cultural Centre. Some of the films that were screened include Saving Raymond, Anemos, The Oasis of Frozen Waters, Timini, Port-au-Prince, and African Millionaires in America, among others. Awards were presented to the best films in various categories, such as feature, documentary, animation, short, and student films. The festival is expected to attract film enthusiasts and professionals from Nigeria and abroad this year.
