Icons Masters 2025 to honour Nigerian art legends in landmark expo

Lagos is set to host one of Africa’s most anticipated cultural events as the Icons Masters 2025 expo takes centre stage from October 10 to 19.
Designed to celebrate Nigeria’s rich artistic heritage, the 10-day event will bring together legendary artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts from across the continent.

According to a statement shared with The Guardian, the expo promises to be a vibrant showcase of creativity, honouring the visionaries who have shaped Nigeria’s cultural identity while spotlighting the new wave of talent redefining African art on the global stage.

The exhibition hinged on Lagos being a thriving hub for contemporary African art, nurturing talents who have shaped Nigeria’s cultural identity and artistic legacy.

As the Nigerian art scene continues to expand globally, there is a renewed commitment to honouring the pioneers whose groundbreaking work laid the foundation for today’s creative expression.

Founded by renowned artist, Abiodun Olaku, Icons Masters is a platform dedicated to celebrating true mastery while spotlighting the enduring contributions of Nigeria’s art legends.

Now proudly sponsored by Arkland Group, this year marks the beginning of five-year collaboration, unveiling the first edition of the series titled “The Legacy Series.”

The exhibition will feature works from distinguished art masters, including Dr Bruce Onobrakpeya, Dr Kolade Oshinowo, Abiodun Olaku, and Tayo Quaye, honouring their legacy while inspiring the next generation of artists.

Other masters showcasing at the event include Bunmi Babatunde, Duke Asidere, Edosa Ogiugo, Alex Nwokolo, Djakou Kassi Nathalie, Steve Ekpenisi, Akporode Collins Abinoro, Odogwu Eze Fidelis, Joshua Nmesirionye, Mufu Onifade, and Kenny Adewuyi.

The programme opens with a Collectors’ Preview, hosted by renowned architect Olajumoke Adenowo, and will also feature a rich lineup of events across the 10-day timeline, including panel sessions, mentorship programmes for young artists, and a Lifetime Achievement Awards Night honouring veterans in the Nigerian art community.

Beyond the exhibitions, guests will enjoy a fully immersive cultural experience, featuring beautiful artworks, great music, cocktails, and interactive sessions designed to engage both seasoned collectors and emerging enthusiasts.
