Fast-rising audio producer, Joseph Abayomi, popularly known as CMJ, hailed from Western Nigeria. Although he has collaborated with various artists and music creatives from around the world, his African identity has significantly influenced his creative pathways and ecosystem.
Joseph’s unique style was shaped early in his life at his birth church, The Cherubim and Seraphim, in Nigeria. There, he was introduced to indigenous African music genres such as Juju, Highlife, and Apala, along with the musical instruments that accompany these styles. To further immerse himself in his culture and music, Joseph studied African music at the University of Ibadan. His connection to his roots remained strong as he took on the challenge of a game music project for his Bachelor’s degree final project at the University of Ibadan. For his Master’s degree final project at the University of Westminster in London, he produced a live recording, mixing, and mastering of his original African-inspired composition, drafted as an EP called ‘Ninu Re’ (In Him).
After earning his degrees, Joseph’s unwavering passion for culturally driven music projects led to an opportunity with Twin Drums in Germany on an Afro-Fantasy project called ‘The Wagadu Chronicles.’
Since then, Joseph Abayomi has established himself as a unique music producer, mixing and mastering engineer on a variety of projects including music albums, singles, and EPs for indie artists and bands, as well as game and film music projects. Some of the major acts he has worked with include NHS (United Kingdom), Twin Drums (Germany), Bro Sol (USA), Aramide Fadilepo (United Kingdom), JayGreen (Nigeria), George Adogu (Nigeria) and Adeola Adeshile (Nigeria).
These diverse experiences have honed Joseph’s creative abilities, which are rapidly growing into a cultural phenomenon, showcasing shades of global awesomeness.
