Labake Olododo scores highest grossing weekend

Nollywood epic movie, Labake Olododo, has brought in over fifty million naira from cinemagoers on its opening weekend, making it the highest grossing movie of the weekend, followed by a mix of Hollywood and Nollywood movies including ‘A Working Man’, ‘The Masked King’, ‘Snow White’, ‘Novocaine and Reel Love’.

Labake Olododo also has the honour of having the second biggest opening weekend for a Nollywood movie in 2025, after Reel Love, which opened at over ninety-nine million naira.

The success of Labake Olododo is no surprise given its promotion, which is just as important as the movie’s quality, that took its executive producers Abazee Productions, Fespris Productions, Alaba Ultimate and Film One to Ibadan, Oshogbo and Ilorin for meet-and-greets with fans, media interviews, and dignitaries’ felicitations.

Chief Executive Officer of Abazee Productions, Abayomi Olukanmi, expressed his gratitude, “It’s very satisfying to see the result of our collective hard work turn out this way. You get out what you put in. We wouldn’t have travelled out of Lagos to spread the word that is Labake Olododo if we didn’t feel it was important.”

The lead actress of the movie, Iyabo Ojo, said, “We’ve been treated so well everywhere we’ve been outside Lagos and that’s so encouraging that the movie has been well received.”

Labake Olododo is in cinemas nationwide. It is a pre-colonial Yoruba epic with English subtitles mixing comedy, drama, romance with themes of loyalty, power struggles, and leadership. It boasts a who’s who cast of Nollywood: Afeez Owo, Femi Adebayo, Ibrahim Chatta, Fathia Balogun, Olumide Oworu, Tayo Faniran and directed by award-winning director Biodun Stephen.
