A new work of art that brings awareness to mental health from the stable of JGD Productions, in partnership with K20 Entertainment, Besieged, is set to hit the cinemas.

Speaking at a private screening held in Lagos, scriptwriter and producer of the Movie, Jane Gam-Dede, said the flick is centred on mental health and the stigmas attached to people suffering from one mental health issue or the other.

“Mental illnesses affect 19 per cent of the adult population, 46 per cent of teenagers and 13 per cent of children each year. The unaccepted fact is, many people are struggling with various mental health related issues, however only half of those affected, accept it often, because of the stigma attached to mental health and the result of not talking about it or seeking help is the cause of the many suicide cases we hear of, yet in this part of the world especially, it’s an illness we still regard or attribute to ‘weakness’,” Gam-Dede said.

Directed by Ike Nnaebue, the movie brings to fore, the dangers of social media among other life lessons. Besieged features artistes like, Bolanle Ninalowo, Ejike Asiegbu, Uche Ogbodo, Esther Ojire, Tamara Eteimo and Barbara Soky.

The screening was attended by guests such as, Ambassador Festus Porbeni, AIG Tunji Alapini (Rtd), Special Adviser to the Bayelsa State Governor on Trade and Investment, Cyril Akika, Emeka Okpara and wife. Nollywood’s legends Hilda Dokubo and Ejike Asiegbu.
