EFCC witness details N305m transfers in alleged $1.5m fraud trial

Ifoma Immanuel

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday presented fresh evidence in the ongoing trial of Ifoma Immanuel, as a prosecution witness told the Lagos State Special Offences Court that N305 million linked to the alleged $1.5 million fraud was transferred in multiple tranches within a single day.

Testifying before Justice Mojisola Dada, GTBank Compliance Officer Levi Amanda Opice disclosed that ABICO Plc transferred a total of N305 million to the Providus Bank account of 107 Global Limited through four separate transactions. According to the witness, the transfers consisted of three payments of N100 million each and an additional N5 million.

Opice further told the court that the account belonged to a Bureau De Change operator, who allegedly handed the funds over to the defendants.

The witness also testified that GTBank received a request from the EFCC dated May 30, 2025, seeking the statement of account and account opening documents for ABICO Plc. He said the bank complied with the request, and its response, dated October 16, 2025, alongside the account opening documents, was admitted into evidence by the court.

Earlier in the proceedings, the prosecution recalled Providus Bank Compliance Officer Paul Olufemi to conclude his testimony. Through the witness, the prosecution tendered several banking documents, including the EFCC’s request to the bank, the bank’s response, and supporting records. Although the defence challenged the admissibility of the documents, Justice Dada overruled the objection and admitted them as exhibits.

Immanuel and his company, Intermediate Investment Holdings Limited, are standing trial on a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and forgery involving an alleged $1.5 million investment. The EFCC alleges that the defendant induced businessman Adebisi Adebutu of R28 Holdings Limited to invest in purported energy projects with promises of reimbursement, a $2.25 million development capital fee, and a 22.4 per cent equity stake.

The defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Justice Dada adjourned the case until June 30, 2026, for the continuation of the trial.
