Auctioneers association accuses government, states of sabotage

Members of the National Association of Auctioneers (NAA), have accused the Federal and State Governments of sabotaging the national economy by allegedly not following the due process in the auction of public properties at their various domains.

Rising from their annual conference in Owerri, capital of Imo State, at the weekend, the association, in a statement, alleged that some officials of the governments mentioned above use their ‘relatives and cronnies’ to sell public properties without following the laid down procedures, at fuadulently ‘ridiculous low rates’’, making it impossible to remit proceeds’ revenue accruable to the government.

The auctioneers appealed to the governments to do well to use registered auctioneers in checking the problem in order not to cause problems in the climeand generate revenue.‘’The auctioneers assured the federal government and other agencies of government of its readiness to support policies aimed at reviving the national economy.’’

In his speech, the President of the association, Alhaji Aliyu Kiliya, said the association would remain a watch dog over the sales of public properties in Nigeria, urging governments at all levels to be mindful of the acts concerning the issues raised.The body used the opportunity to launch its website, calling on its members to make use of it to ‘achieve connectivity in the digital age.’
