Delta offers Nigeria-U.S. travellers rewards

Delta Air Lines

Frequent Nigerian travellers to the United States (U.S.) could get more value from their trips under a new loyalty promotion unveiled by Delta Air Lines and American Express.

The new promotion offers eligible new cardholders complimentary round-trip travel within the U.S., in addition to bonus airline miles.

The promotion, which runs from August 27 through November 4, 2026, gives eligible new Delta SkyMiles American Express Card Members an opportunity to earn two round-trip Delta Comfort Flight Certificates and 50,000 bonus SkyMiles.

A statement by the media consultant to the airline in Nigeria said the offer was part of an extensive package of limited-time promotions announced by Delta and American Express to commemorate 30 years of partnership between the airline and the financial services company.

Under the offer, eligible customers who apply for the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Consumer Card and spend $10,000 within their first six months of card membership would qualify for the two round-trip Delta Comfort Flight Certificates, alongside the 50,000 bonus SkyMiles.

Delta said there were no blackout dates, although bookings must be made at least 21 days in advance, while taxes and fees of up to $80 per person apply.

For Nigerian travellers who make regular trips to the United States, the offer could be particularly useful for those whose itineraries extend beyond the city of arrival to include domestic travel to other American destinations.

However, the airline’s latest reward comes with a significant geographical limitation for Nigerian customers.

The two flight certificates cannot be used for the Lagos-United States journey. Instead, they are valid for eligible Delta-operated round-trip flights within the 48 contiguous United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

This means that a Nigerian traveller flying from Lagos to the United States could potentially use the certificates for subsequent domestic journeys within America, subject to the terms and conditions of the promotion.

For instance, a passenger arriving in Atlanta from Lagos could potentially redeem one of the certificates for a subsequent Delta-operated round trip to another eligible U.S. destination.

The benefit could, therefore, appeal to Nigerians who combine business trips, family visits and leisure travel across several American cities.

Delta operates a nonstop service between Lagos and Atlanta, providing Nigerian passengers with direct access to the airline’s Atlanta hub and, from there, connections to a broad network of destinations across the United States.
