THE Centre for Management Development (CMD) on Wednesday called on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to take advantage of Nigeria’s bilateral agreements to raise the skills of their workers.

The CMD Director-General, Dr Kabir Usman, made the call during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Usman said CMD workers had become more efficient since they returned from a training on e-government facilitated by the Korean government in Seoul.

He said because Nigeria was part of the global village, MDAs should utilise the training component of bilateral agreements to expose their workers to international best practices in different fields.

He said such training programmes would also reduce the economic burden of building the skills of its manpower on the Federal Government.

“We have to encourage exchange training programmes because the world is a global village.

“If you stay on your own and you say you want to find funds in order to send 10 people for overseas studies you will require a lot of money and perhaps might not do that. But if you have some kind of partnership or technical assistance, particularly the one I participated in South Korea in November, things can be a lot easier.

“We had a significant number of our staff who have gone and become trained on e-government but if were to wait until we had resources we could not have done that,’’ Usman said.

According to him, the exchange programmes has really helped to raise the capacity of our staff. We expect them to become train-the- trainers.

“We expect them and others that benefited in the Korean programme to train 21,000 Nigerians in order to promote e-government agenda.’’

Usman called for faithful implementation of the National Man-Power Development Plan in the country.

Usman said the plan would assist private and public sectors to provide the required manpower that would grow the economy, particularly to realise Vision 20:2020.
