The first female president of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Southwest Nigeria Chapter, Dr. Titilayo Fowokan, has handed over leadership of the association to Dr. Lydia Ajayi, with Fowokan listing her many achievements in fraud prevention, capacity building and strategic partnerships.
“When I assumed office, I set out with a vision to strengthen our chapter’s impact, enhance professional development opportunities, and reinforce the values of integrity, accountability, and excellence in fraud prevention and detection,” Fowokan stated.
Under her leadership, the chapter pursued a seven-point agenda, which included capacity-building initiatives, expanding membership, and fostering collaborations with organizations like KPMG Nigeria and ACCA Nigeria. A major milestone was the launch of the ACFE Southwest Nigeria website, aimed at increasing global visibility and accessibility.
One of the chapter’s key events during her tenure was the 7th Annual Anti-Fraud Nigeria Conference in March 2024, themed “Fraud Fighters’ Perspective of a New Nigeria: Stamping Out Crimes with Technology Advancement.” The event, supported by corporate partners including Nigeria Customs Service and Eko Electric Distribution Company, underscored the role of technological advancements in fraud prevention.
Looking ahead, Fowokan expressed confidence in her successor, Dr. Ajayi, who becomes the chapter’s 4th and 2nd female president. “You are assuming leadership at a time when the fight against fraud is more critical than ever,” Fowokan said. “I have no doubt that under your stewardship, the Chapter will continue to thrive, innovate, and make an even greater impact.”
As she steps aside, Fowokan reaffirmed her commitment to ACFE’s mission, stating that she will continue to contribute to fraud prevention efforts. “Though my tenure as President ends today, my commitment to ACFE, especially the Southwest Nigeria Chapter, remains strong,” she said.
Fowokan said “With Dr. Ajayi at the helm, ACFE Southwest Nigeria is poised to continue its role in strengthening anti-fraud efforts in Nigeria, fostering professional excellence, and advocating for integrity in financial practices.”
