Betty Otimenyin has assumed duty as the 49th and first female Commissioner of Police (CP) in Edo StateBetty Otimenyin has assumed duty as the 49th and first female Commissioner of Police in Edo State.

Addressing journalists shortly after inspecting the guard of honour, Betty said the command under her watch will work to drastically reduce the crime level in the state.

She said the command will be tough on violence against women and extortion because the IGP is strongly against it.

“We are going to look at sex-based violence, violence against women and children. We are going to work on laws that have to do with the protection of women and children,” she stated.

She noted that although the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has declared that the police do not need to check individual phones, there are situations where checking information becomes necessary, and the police cannot stop it.

Otimenyin, who was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1992, began her career at the Bauchi State Police Command, where she served in various divisions before being moved to Plateau State.

She also served in Kebbi, Rivers, and Edo State commands before she was redeployed to Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Before her redeployment to Edo State as Commissioner of Police, she served in the Force Intelligence Department (FID) as Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration.
