Firm unveils free health insurance cover for indigent Nigerians
To deepen awareness and access to health insurance, Nigeria’s first end-to-end property technology company, Home Owner, has launched a first-of-its-kind free health insurance pilot scheme.
Speaking on the initiative, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Home Owner, Prince Mohammed Kolawole Salau, said: “Nigeria is facing a critical deficit in the health insurance space due to a need for more awareness to the benefits an HMO cover can offer in these times when the cost of medication is skyrocketing.”
He said data shows that 95 per cent of Nigerians lack health insurance leaving only five per cent with access to it, which is mostly provided by corporate companies to their workforce. He added that this is low for a nation that cares about its health security.
Salau stated that there is a need for all stakeholders to join forces to increase awareness and deepen access. He said: “The adage ‘health is wealth’ resonates with the essence of our mission. Without access to quality healthcare, Nigerians, who are predominantly our users may struggle to achieve the stability and security necessary for ownership of Africa’s premier all-in-one property technology platform. Our innovative platform not only facilitates flexible housing solutions—such as monthly rentals, pay-as-you-stay options, and rent-to-own arrangements—but also empowers users to conveniently shop for electronics, manage utility payments, access solar energy, Internet services, and other essential household items with zero interest installment plans. By prioritising their health, they can fully embrace and leverage these diverse services ensuring a stress-free and enriched living experience that is seamless from anywhere.
“We incorporated in May 2022 as Home Owner to offer 360 degrees solutions so people can search, secure and settle. Now, we wish to support the Presidency’s agenda to promote health security so people can have access to hospitals, treat their ailments, and get medications delivered to them all for free.”
According to the firm, the free one million health insurance will start with Nigerians but will expand into other nationalities across Africa. Nigerians can apply on the Home Owner platform and wait to be issued.
