Globacom to roll out over 400 new sites, upgrades base stations

Telecommunications firm, Globacom, is to roll out over 400 additional sites this year, with a view to upgrading the existing Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), and improving customer services and expand to new cities.

Unveiling the new plans in Lagos, weekend, Globacom’s Group Chief Technical Officer, Sanjib Roy, also informed that the firm would roll out Long Term Evolution (LTE) in 1800MHz band for greater handset compatibility and subscriber adoption.

“We are planning to roll out LTE in 1800 Band this year in major cities to increase our Data penetration in 4G LTE, and allow higher handset adoption to enable and empower the masses and harness the future into their hands,” Roy said.

He disclosed that Globacom would also come with new enterprise products to cater to the need of the small and medium scale enterprise (SMEs), to stimulate business growth in Nigeria.

The products that will be rolled out include MPLS VPN; leased lines; dedicated Internet access; 4G-LTE Enterprise Internet; co-location; mobile CUG, broadband through ADSL, and a host of others.

Roy also revealed plans by the firm to roll out the Glo2 submarine cable before the year ends, to provide bandwidth for local ICT business to flourish; provide back up for the terrestrial fibre route from Port Harcourt to Lagos.

Speaking of plans to commence mobile money service in Nigeria soonest, Globacom’s Senior Manager, Marketing Communications, Sola Mogaji, said the telecommunications company is bringing innovation to the financial transaction process in the country with the launch of its mobile money platform tagged: ‘Glo Mobile Money’ which is expected to become a reality in a couple of weeks.

According to him, Glo Mobile Money will not require any user to go through any banking platform, and there will be no need for high-end phones for any transaction to be carried out by any subscriber of the service.

The company said the product is designed to encourage savings culture among Nigerians. It requires less information to register for the service on mobile phones, and it does not exclude any customer, regardless of the type of phone.

With the Glo Mobile Money service, Mogaji said Nigeria financial inclusion initiative will take a giant stride.

The network operator also revealed other services in its suite due for unveiling in the coming weeks, like the Glo Drive, which is a cloud storage platform that offers subscribers the opportunity to access Glo data service even when they are offline.

Similarly, the Glo Health Care App is expected to provide customers the opportunity to have access to about 300 specialised doctors for their health issues, such as blood pressure, sugar level among others.
The service will come in three Nigerian languages – Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba.

On its entertainment platform, Glo Entertainment will thrill the network’s customers with over 12,000 blockbuster movies, two million songs and 10,000 games. The service is reputed to be the biggest digital library in Nigeria when unveiled.

Other services the telecoms company will be launching very soon include Glo Call Connect Services, Glo Business Travel Service, and its artificial intelligence service, Glo TITI, and others.
