Gov presents N274.8b 2016 Kano appropriation bill to lawmakers

GOVERNOR Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has presented N274.8 billion appropriation bill for the 2016 fiscal year to the state assembly, insisting that discipline would be his watchword for the implementation of the fiscal document.

Tagged “Budget for Self-Reliance,” it was scripted, according to the Governor, to reflect the vision of the state for diversifying government activities and governance, towards the development of all sectors.

Ganduje said N191.6 billion, representing 72 per cent of the budget proposal, would be for capital expenditure, while N157.4 billion would be for recurrent spending.

“Our expected internally generated revenue will ne higher than last year’s by N14.3 billion and we are certain that this is possible because of our overhauling of the state revenue board. We now have experts and experienced people as management and consultants for the board,” he stressed.

On the sectoral allocation water supply and rural development takes the largest share of N31.3 billion, while education comes second, with N23.7 billion.

Ganduje assured that the ongoing construction of the state university, North West University, would be completed, apart from construction of more science laboratories, class rooms, staff quarters and procurement of other teaching and learning materials, among others.

Out of the total sum allocated to education, he revealed that N144 million would be used to complete the construction of French College, situated at Niger Republic.

Ganduje promised that with the budget, Kano, being the commercial nerve centre of the North, would put a halt to the lingering issue of the proposed ultra modern Kanawa market. “This budget will see to the construction of the delayed Kanawa ultra modern market. That has been delayed for the past 10 years,” he encouraged.

The sum of N1.2 billion was set aside for the Ministry of Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, with “the sum of N100 million set aside for the reopening of the tested Triumph Newspaper. ”

Kano Pillars Football Club takes N130 million for its development.
