The Governor of Borno State, Gov Kashim Shetima has commended the MD/CEO of FAAN, Saleh Dunoma, an engineer, following the National Productivity Merit Award conferred on him by President Mohammadu Buhari, along with 11 others in Abuja recently.

Also, workers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) have commended the managing director, for what they described as his exemplary leadership and his ability to carry the workers along in the goal of moving the agency forward.
Shetima described Dunoma as a worthy ambassador of the State who has distinguished himself in his chosen carrier.
Governor Shetima stated this in Maiduguri while receiving the Managing   Director who was on a working visit to the Maiduguri Airport.

He charged him to see the award as a charge to further excel in his call to duty.
The Shehu of Bornu, Alhaji Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, while receiving him in his palace, described Dunoma as a worthy son who has made the Emirate proud.

He extoled the leadership traits of Dunoma which he said was anchored on hard work, simplicity and humility thereby thanking President Mohammadu Buhari for finding him worthy.
Following his tour of the airport which was recently reopened, Dunoma charged the staff to adhere to safety and security which has remained his priority.

He said the on-going renovation at the airport would soon be completed and the airport would now wear a new look, expressing the hope that with time more people will travel through the airport as peace returns to Borno state.
He said renovation and expansion are also going on at different airports in the country and they would also be completed, adding that the objective was to ensure improved airports with better services and ease of facilitation.

Dunoma also noted that FAAN is receiving many awards recently because of the improvement going on at the nation’s airports, observing that more passengers would continue to travel through the airports so that they have to be passenger friendly with improved facilities as the major task facing the Authority.

From 2011 to date the airports remodelled under the supervision of Dunoma include the General Aviation Terminal (Murtala Muhammed Airport, MMA), the International Terminal (MMIA), the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, (International terminal), the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, (domestic terminal), Kaduna Airport terminal, Margaret Ekpo International Airport Terminal, Calabar and Benin Airport terminals.

Others include the Akanu Ibiam International Airport terminal, Enugu, Sam Mbakwe Airport terminal, Owerri, Port Harcourt International Airport Terminal (domestic terminal), Yola Airport terminal.

It has to be noted, however that work is still on-going at some of the terminals, including the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos. And the pace of remodelling work has slowed because FAAN now relies largely on internally generated revenue to complete the projects.
In addition, a new international terminal is being constructed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, close to the existing terminal in preparation for making the airport a major regional hub. The newly extended departure hall features state-of-the-art screening machines, 30 new Immigration counters against nine previously there, among others.

Remarkably, the new screening machines have the ability to detect explosive materials and potential threat items real time with the lowest rate of false alarm.

The workers in their own commendation said what Dunoma has accomplished within the short period he was appointed to head the Authority, led to new innovations and administrative style of transparent administration, adding that this obviously explained why MD and the agency have been receiving awards in recognition of his commendable leadership style.
