SKOT Communications has launched the SKOT Impact Academy, a comprehensive training initiative designed to address the skills gap in Nigeria’s communications industry.
The academy, which received nearly 400 applications within weeks of its launch in August, represents a significant investment in professional development for the sector.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, founder of SKOT Communications, Tokunboh George Taylor, outlined her vision to create “the leading PR hub in Africa.
“I have been in communications and PR for 31 years, and I thought it was important to give back to the sector that has shaped me as a person. I see people coming in to do mass communications, and they don’t really know the PR world. The academy aims to shape professionals into global storytellers.”
The inaugural cohort begins immediately with a six-week tuition-free programme conducted in-person at SKOT’s newly established training facility in Lagos. The comprehensive curriculum covers essential PR skills, with plans to incorporate crisis management, storytelling and artificial intelligence applications in communications.
Taylor emphasized the global scope of her ambitions, noting that SKOT Communications recently became the only Nigerian PR company accepted into a global network of independent PR firms.
The partnership will bring international facilitators to the academy, ensuring participants receive world-class training aligned with global industry standards.
“We help brands, individuals, government, and corporations ensure their stories are told effectively. Communications professionals need to be armed with the necessary tools to do this effectively in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape,” Taylor noted.
