SROL pushes responsible mining as catalyst for Nigeria–South Africa growth

Segilola Resources Operations Limited (SROL), one of Nigeria’s leading gold mining firms, has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible mining and sustainable community development during the Nigerian–South African Chamber of Commerce breakfast forum held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
Themed “Unlocking Africa’s Hidden Wealth: Mining as a Catalyst for Bilateral Movement,” the event brought together top executives, policymakers and industry leaders from both countries to explore ways of strengthening trade and investment through the mining sector.

SROL’s Country Manager, Austin Menegbo, who delivered the keynote address and joined a panel discussion, underscored the company’s belief that mining should serve as a vehicle for shared prosperity. He noted that inclusive growth and the wellbeing of host communities remain central to the firm’s operations, adding that sustainable partnerships foster trust, attract capital and drive long-term development.

Menegbo also paid tribute to the leadership of Segun Lawson, Chief Executive Officer of Thor Explorations, for his role in positioning the company as a major player in Nigeria’s evolving mining industry.

Highlighting SROL’s four-pillar approach to community relations, Menegbo said the company invests heavily in gender inclusion, infrastructure development, capacity building and economic empowerment to ensure that mining communities not only benefit from its operations but also build resilience beyond the life of the mine.

Through these initiatives, SROL continues to demonstrate that responsible mining is not merely about mineral extraction but about creating lasting social and economic impact while fostering stronger bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa.
