The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable, professional, and innovative transport solutions in Nigeria and across Africa.
Delivering the goodwill message on behalf of the CIOTA President, Prince (Dr.) Segun Obayendo, FInstTA, the Institute’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. (Mrs.) Chizoba Anyika, commended the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) for hosting the 2025 International Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility (SUMConference25) with the theme “Harnessing Clean Urban Transport Innovation and Investment in Africa.”
Prince (Dr.) Obayendo described the conference as “a visionary platform that brings together leaders, thinkers, and innovators to chart a path for cleaner, safer, and more inclusive mobility across African cities.”
He noted that as Africa’s cities continue to expand, the need for clean transport technologies, innovative financing models, and strong policy frameworks has never been more urgent. According to him, CIOTA’s work in training, certification, and policy advocacy remains central to achieving these goals.
“CIOTA stands as a bridge between policy and practice,” the President stated. “We are committed to equipping transport professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to manage modern transport systems that are sustainable, efficient, and economically viable.”
Prince (Dr.) Obayendo further emphasised that the SUMConference25 theme aligns perfectly with CIOTA’s mission to promote professionalism, research, and innovation in transport administration. He called for deeper collaboration among government agencies, private investors, and academia to accelerate Africa’s transition toward clean mobility.
“We must move from conversations to action, strengthening our local transport ecosystems, encouraging homegrown innovation, and investing in sustainable mobility that serves both people and the planet,” he said.
