Keystone Bank Limited has graduated and inducted 62 young professionals from the 29th Stream of its Banking School Programme into its workforce after they successfully completed the bank’s flagship capacity-building initiative.
The latest cohort, comprising 34 females and 28 males, completed a four-month intensive programme at the Keystone Bank Banking School, where they received training in technical knowledge, professional competencies and practical aspects of banking.
The cohort recorded the best overall academic performance in the history of the Keystone Bank Banking School, according to the lender.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Keystone Bank, Hassan Imam, said the graduation represented more than the completion of a training programme, describing the trainees as an important part of the bank’s future.
Imam said the bank was deliberately investing in its workforce because its long-term growth and transformation depended on the quality, competence and character of its employees.
“Today is particularly significant for us because we are not simply graduating 62 trainees; we are welcoming 62 young professionals into the next chapter of their careers and, importantly, into the future of Keystone Bank,” he said.
He said the bank had recorded progress in customer acquisition, deposit growth, profitability, digital innovation and industry recognition, adding that it was building on those achievements with greater ambition.
Imam urged the new professionals to see themselves as contributors to the development of the institution, particularly as the banking industry continues to evolve.
“I expect these young professionals to see themselves as builders of an institution. As banking evolves, we need people who combine innovation with sound judgement, ambition with discipline, and, above all, integrity,” he said.
He also advised the trainees to continue developing their skills and maintain high ethical standards throughout their careers.
“Your graduation is a beginning, not an end. Continue to learn, challenge yourselves and uphold your integrity. Skills may open doors, but character determines how far you go,” Imam said.
President and Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Dele Alabi, commended Keystone Bank for its continued investment in developing young banking professionals.
Alabi said initiatives such as the Banking School were important to developing the next generation of leaders in the financial services industry.
He noted that banking required professionals with both technical competence and strong ethical foundations, urging the graduands to make integrity a cornerstone of their careers.
Head of the Keystone Bank Learning Academy, Abimbola Alabi, described the Banking School experience as rewarding and transformative, noting the growth recorded by the trainees during the programme.
She said the programme was designed not only to produce competent entry-level bankers but also to develop professionals capable of progressing into leadership positions within the financial services industry.
“What we have witnessed is the transformation of young graduates into professionals who are better equipped to understand the realities of the banking industry. We have seen them grow in confidence, knowledge, teamwork and leadership,” she said.
Alabi expressed the expectation that some of the graduates would eventually rise to senior leadership positions within the banking and financial services sectors.
The 29th Stream trainees also participated in branch attachment sessions, sporting activities, social engagements, community service initiatives and a prison visit as part of the programme.
According to the bank, the activities were designed to promote teamwork, leadership, collaboration, social responsibility and personal development alongside technical training.
The graduands expressed appreciation to Keystone Bank for providing them with an opportunity to begin their professional careers in a structured learning environment.
The Keystone Bank Banking School is one of the lender’s talent development initiatives and is structured around the curriculum of the CIBN. The programme covers areas including banking operations, financial analysis, risk management, regulatory compliance and customer service.
