NPA chief Dantsoho lists benefits of export process terminals

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has outlined the benefits of the newly established Export Process Terminals (EPTs), describing them as a game-changer for Nigeria’s non-oil export drive.

Speaking during the “NPA Special Day” at the Kaduna International Trade Fair 2026, Dantsoho said the EPTs were introduced to simplify export procedures, eliminate bottlenecks and reposition Nigeria as a competitive global trading nation.

According to him, the Export Process Terminals serve as one-stop hubs where exporters can seamlessly carry out cargo consolidation, stuffing, packaging, documentation, certification, and electronic shipment scheduling.

“The Export Process Terminals were conceptualised to simplify what used to be a burdensome export process. Today, exporters can complete documentation, packaging and shipment coordination in a seamless and efficient manner,” he said.

He explained that one of the major benefits of the EPTs is the reduction of bureaucratic delays that previously discouraged exporters, particularly small and medium-scale enterprises, from participating fully in international trade.

Dantsoho further noted that the terminals are electronically integrated with port operations through the call-up system, enabling faster cargo evacuation, reduced port congestion and improved turnaround time.

To enhance access for inland producers, the NPA boss disclosed that the Authority is working in synergy with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and other partners to connect the EPTs with Domestic Export Warehouses (DEWs).

This linkage, he said, creates structured export pathways for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across the hinterland.

“We are determined to link value creators in the remotest part of the hinterland with the farthest clusters of demand anywhere on the globe,” he declared.

He added that the EPT initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to automate port operations through the National Single Window (NSW), which enables stakeholders to complete trade documentation digitally and more efficiently.

Dantsoho emphasised that the reforms will boost non-oil exports, improve Nigeria’s balance of trade and support the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda.

Describing Kaduna as a strategic gateway to the northern hinterland and neighbouring landlocked countries, he said the city occupies a central position in the country’s export expansion strategy.

Reaffirming the Authority’s readiness to collaborate with stakeholders, Dantsoho assured traders and investors of sustained engagement beyond the trade fair.

“Our doors remain open for partnerships as we work together to strengthen Nigeria’s domestic economy through enhanced trade facilitation,” he added.
