MTN pays N290m to over 1,500 winners in mega promo

MTN Nigeria has disbursed over N290 million in cash prizes to more than 1,500 customers participating in its ongoing Mega Billion Promo, according to company officials at a live event held recently in Lagos.

The telecom operator said the initiative, which runs for 90 days, is aimed at offering financial relief and engagement to subscribers.

The structure of the campaign was presented during the event, which was attended by officials from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority, members of the press, and promo beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, said the initiative was developed in response to prevailing economic conditions.

“In the last couple of years, it’s been a very tough time for the average Nigerian,” she said. “As a company that is committed to making our customers’ lives better, we consistently look for ways to achieve this. This Mega Billion Promo is one of such initiatives.”

MTN reported that the promo has produced over 1,500 winners, including three jackpot recipients and more than 100 others who won ₦100,000 each. Ikenna-Emeka added that the payout figure is expected to rise as the campaign progresses.

Senior Manager for MTN’s Consumer Segment, Debo Agun, explained the promo’s participation process. “Typical promos in Nigeria, customers are made to pay for it. But for this promo, there’s nothing like that,” he said. “All that is required of you as a customer is to dial *900#. This is for you to opt in and also a form of consent.”

Agun noted that 63 winners are selected each weekday, while Saturdays include 104 winners and a ₦10 million jackpot.

One of the jackpot winners, Femi Yusuf, who won ₦10 million, said he initially doubted the promo’s credibility. “I thought it was one of those promos that nothing comes out of. Then, I watched the live draw,” he said.

MTN stated that the promo is being managed by third-party partners to ensure transparency in the selection process.
