The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has fully accredited Charkin Maritime Academy (CMA), a maritime education and training institution situated in Port Harcourt, Rivers State to run two programmes.

The two programmes, in two streams of 40 students each, are Marine Engineering Technology and Nautical Science.

The accreditation, which was conveyed to the institution in a letter addressed to the Provost of CMA, took effect from October 1, 2022.

A copy of the letter showed that the accreditation of CMA was sequel to the accreditation visitation carried out by NBTE from October 30 to November 3, 2022.

The letter signed by the Director, Monotechnic Programme Department, NBTE Sama’ila Tanko for the Executive Director, dated November 22, 2022, stated that the programmes would be due for another accreditation in 2027.

Responding, the Chief Promoter of CMA, Charles Wami, expressed delight that the institution met the stringent requirements for the NBTE accreditation.

He called for the support of all stakeholders to ensure that the purpose of setting up CMA is actualised for the benefit of Nigerians in the years ahead.

According to him, the management of the institution will not rest on its oars until all that is required to make CMA the first choice for maritime training in Nigeria as well as the West and Central Africa Sub-regions is attained.

He said CMA offers state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including hostel accommodation for the training of seafarers, adding that it has over the years remained the leading training provider for professionals in the maritime and offshore oil and gas industries.
