UNILAG Alumni, Zenith Bank to rehabilitate Moremi Cab Shuttle Park

The University of Lagos Alumni Association in collaboration with Zenith Bank Plc, has committed to the redevelopment of the Moremi Cab Shuttle Park and shops at the institution.

National President of the association, Dr. Sunny Kuku, made the commitment at the turning of the SOD ceremony for the rehabilitation of the Moremi Cab Shuttle Park and shops held at the institution, as the five-year tenure of its immediate past Vice Chancellor, Professor Rahman Ade Bello, elapsed.

Revealing the associations’ plans to turn the park to an ultramodern facility, Kuku said the essence of the event was to help develop the community and also help fund some projects in the university.

He noted that the Moremi Car Park, which is the center of all education activities, has become dilapidated, adding: So, the alumni association will rebuild it to make it ultramodern and build a small park and shops.

“ We are building it in the name of Professor Rahman Bello, who is retiring and leaving office. He has been a wonderful Vice Chancellor and we thought we should promote it with his name.

He said the infrastructure decay was a disgrace to the alumni association, adding: “As an Alumni Association, we don’t want to visit the university and say this is the university from where we graduated and looking turn apart.

“So what we come to do is to keep the reputation, the infrastructure we built so that when we come in, we would be proud.”

He said the project was worth N40 million and is a joint development venture between the association and Zenith Bank Plc.

Responding, Bello said: “Our dream for this place is becoming a reality. As you said, just like cities are renewed, we need to begin to renew the University environment and it started from the cleaning of the environment, the edges. Now the structures need to be renewed.

“So I feel very elated that our plan, which was put up as the VC will now be realized as I leave office. One of the challenges we faced was funding. The University of Lagos is a city and not just a university. Between five to ten thousand people visit the University of Lagos daily.”

It is a big place to really run and I am happy that we are able to put things in place and things are moving on very well,” he said.
