Visa raises awareness on card security

Credit cardsWith the rising trend of card fraud and Automated Teller Machine (ATM) scheming in the money market around the world, a United States-based global payment technology company, Visa, has launched a campaign geared towards raising awareness among cardholders on the security features found within the Europay, MasterCard, and Visa (EMV) chip cards as well as ways to secure their cards.

Speaking at a press briefing to mark its Card Security Week, the Business Development Leader, Visa West Africa, Mr. Emezino Afiegbe noted that the company’s objective, which is making payment easier, seamless and more convenient cannot be achieved if the cards are prone to hacking and other security breaches.

He noted that the company champions security through investing and reinvesting in security to ensure that all their partners can keep the payment platforms secured and give their cardholders rest of mind that there is an organisation behind the scene working assiduously to keep a step ahead of fraudsters.

According to him, “fear of fraud remains one of the major barriers to card usage in Nigeria and many other markets. We believe that greater awareness of the security measures in place as well as the advancements made in card security will enable consumers to comfortably enjoy the convenience of using their cards for their everyday transactions.”
