THE distributor of Xerox products in Nigeria, XHS Limited has launched a printing machine, Nuvera 157 EA.
Speaking at the launch in Lagos, the Managing Director of the organisation, Femi Okunade, stated that the company is set to support Nigeria in bringing innovation to the printing industry.

“Nuvera 157 EA works in different speeds, but what is exciting for us is that we believe this machine can provide solution to the printing challenges in Nigeria. It has taken us four years to get to this point after carrying out critical surveys”, he added.

Okunade explained that what they had done in the past five years was to leverage technology to make education more productive in marking examinations, among others.

“Examinations marking and releasing of results have been fraught with fraud and lateness. In the last five years, what we have done is to see how we could help the industry. As I am talking to you we have 21 smaller types of this machine in different universities across the country. It helps to mark the exams over night. We have recorded success in that area and we are moving further by increasing the speed. What we are doing today is a gift to the offset industry where it could compete”, Okunade noted.

Explaining that the product was not particularly tied to the education industry, he said it could also be used in press, basically for black and white, while assuring that the machine is environmental friendly.

“Countries of the world are ensuring that the level of air pollution is reduced. The machine uses fewer toners to print and when one uses fewer toners, there is less waste. The machine also takes the unused toners and recycles them, which enables it to have a longer lifespan, longer usage of toners and less pollution to the environment”, he added.

Okunade said the new digital machine would challenge the offset press because “there is no need for plate anymore.”

“The only difference would be in paper sizes because it cannot do A1 and A2.   But if you really want to print over night and you don’t want to setup the press, the machine is effective. You can see the advantage of comfort, price, productivity and duration. That is why we say it would challenge the offset.

We are not saying that it would take over; offset has come to stay and both would complement one another”, he said.
