Many Nigerians believe that the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Mbu Joseph Mbu is a controversial Police officer. But the Police hierarchy, officers and men have very high regard for the man, whom they describe as ‘a disciplinarian and a man of integrity’ because he does not compromise the integrity of the Force.  However, his pronouncements since assumption of office as the supervisor of both Lagos and Ogun State Commands have attracted bad press for him. Since his face-off with the opposition government in Rivers State, every step Mbu takes is interpreted as a mission for the advancement of the agenda of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He has denied such claim, urging politicians who do not have any intention to cause mayhem during and after the election not to be afraid of him. He insists his mission to Lagos is strictly for police job and nothing more. He interacted with newsmen recently in his office and ODITA SUNDAY was there.

RIGHT from the outset, Plateau State is not known for political violence. This informed the state’s appellation of “Home of Peace and Tourism.” When democratic governance returned in Nigeria in 1999, hate campaigns, hate speeches were unknown to the Plateau people until the state lost its innocence in 2001 not to political violence, but to extraneous religious violence and colouration which is still staring the state in the face up till date.

TO say that Benue state is free of pre-election violence ahead of the rescheduled March 18 and April 11 general elections could be an understatement as pockets of violence have been recorded in the state. This is despite the fact that several peace accords have been signed political parties and their members. The tendencies for violence can be clearly seen in the speeches of some candidates and party supporters at campaign rallies, public events and even during private discussions at party levels.
