The commemoration of Easter is to draw our attention to Jesus Christ as the Symbol of peace. It, therefore, becomes wise that the entire nation should use this period of Easter to foster peace and love in the country, as this is the only way we can acknowledge and appreciate what Jesus has done for humanity.

Leadership and sacrifice, as demonstrated by Jesus Christ through His death on the Cross of Calvary, are virtues that are hard to find in the world. But these are crucial qualities that are urgently needed to make the society a better place for all to thrive and survive. As Nigerian Christians join others all over the world to celebrate Easter today, which incidentally coincides with the election period in the country, it is pertinent to wonder how much of these virtues the new leaders are ready to imbibe to impact positively on the Nigerian society. Are they capable of making the necessary sacrifices to unite the country, heal past wounds and thus foster peace? Will they provide exemplary leadership that craves only the welfare and wellbeing of the people? How much of these qualities is required to move the country forward? When King Jehoshaphat learnt that these three nations were coming against his country, he quickly mobilised the entire country (men, women, and children) to seek the face of God. He didn’t go first to take the inventory of his armoury. He had soldiers and weapons, but he first summoned the people from all the towns of Judah to fast and pray. And he led the prayers. This clearly shows you where his confidence lies. The word of God said that trusting in the arms of flesh, human wisdom, power and connection would always fail. We must learn to always take our matters to God, and then He will lead us to victory.

AT this season of lent, we are called to repentance. God calls each and every one of us to repent from our sins and draw near to Him. We are called to change our ways. Change is very difficult for most humans to accept. But we must change, whether we like it or not. Indeed, we change every second. We can never remain the same. But we have a choice to change for either good or bad. If you have been languishing in a particular sin for too long, you can decide to say enough is enough.

ONE issue that has been taunting our faith in the present generation is the dilemma of what Christianity should be. While some are attuned to Christianity of comfort, of modernisation and wellbeing, others stick to the Christianity of the cross, of the old, as it is written unequivocally in the Scripture. (Heb 1: 1-2)
