The grand old man Lee Kuan Yew, who passed on last week at 91, has to be correctly seen as a global seminar figure. He was statesmanlike. He had vision and courage. He was an inspirer, and above all, he was a step ahead of his society. Once a leader has these abilities and/or gifts, then all else that nations needed to become great would fall in place.

AT this season of lent, we are called to repentance. God calls each and every one of us to repent from our sins and draw near to Him. We are called to change our ways. Change is very difficult for most humans to accept. But we must change, whether we like it or not. Indeed, we change every second. We can never remain the same. But we have a choice to change for either good or bad. If you have been languishing in a particular sin for too long, you can decide to say enough is enough.

YES o, this is Nigeria. What you are seeing, as you say, are wonderful, Lagos is incredible and all Nigerians are great Fela Kuti mesmerizers with voice and musical instruments; we are Wole Soyinkas hurling verbs of powerful vowels at all who remain silent in the face of tyranny; Dangotes and Hakeem Bello-Osagies with investment portfolios destined to African countries; and incredible support systems and funds to continue to found and carry the arts. Yes all this is Nigeria, and even Nigeria could be more! And it will be more.

LIFE has indeed taught me that attaining greatness is simply a question of the array of individuals you associate with, the books you read, places you go to and God’s unmerited grace available to all.
