A Lagos-based lawyer, Ayodele Ademiluyi, has instituted a Freedom of Information (FOI) suit against the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, over the alleged refusal to release the report of a Special Visitation Panel set up for the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos.
Ademiluyi, who is the Lead Partner at Newworth LLP, filed the suit before the Federal High Court, Lagos Division, under suit number FHC/L/CS/531/2026. He is seeking an order compelling the minister to make available the report, which he said has been withheld despite a formal request.
According to a press statement issued by the lawyer, the action followed the minister’s alleged failure to comply with the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. Ademiluyi stated that he had served a letter requesting the report but did not receive any response within the seven-day period stipulated by the law.
The Special Visitation Panel in question was constituted by the minister in response to a crisis that reportedly rocked the college on May 27, 2024. The unrest was said to have been driven by a group of staff members operating under the name “Concerned Staff.”
The panel was tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the crisis and making recommendations to address underlying issues within the institution. However, Ademiluyi alleged that although the panel had since concluded its assignment, the report has not been made public.
He further accused the minister of withholding the document without providing any justification, describing the situation as a violation of the principles of transparency and accountability in public service.
“The minister has refused, failed and neglected to furnish the requested report despite being duly served,” the statement said, adding that such conduct undermines the spirit of the FOI Act.
The case has been assigned to Justice Bogoro of the Federal High Court, Lagos Division. Court documents indicate that the originating processes have already been served on the Minister of Education.
The matter has been scheduled for mention on April 10, 2026, where the court is expected to take preliminary steps in the proceedings.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ministry of Education had not issued an official response to the lawsuit or the allegations raised by the claimant.
