Crisis rocks UniAbuja SSANU over alleged misuse of fund

Crisis is rocking the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Abuja branch, over alleged misuse of funds by its chairman, Mr. M Nurudeen Yusuf.

The alleged infraction has become a source of discord among executive members of the association as both Yusuf and the Treasurer of the association, Mr Precious Sokari traded words in full view of their members at the weekend.

Trouble started when Yusuf allegedly set up eleven member committees allegedly without consultation with other members of the Executives.

A concerned member of the association who pleased anonymity described the ugly scene whereby Sokari was said to have been slapped by Yusuf as an unacceptable act, adding that such violence by a leader entrusted with upholding staff welfare must not be tolerated.

Many within the University community are expressing deep concern over the chairman’s conduct, which not only undermines the principles of democratic leadership but also threatens the peace and stability of the institution’s industrial relations environment.

Members of the University community are calling on the management to take swift and decisive action in line with the University Act and relevant disciplinary frameworks.

They urged that the incident must not be swept under the rug and that appropriate sanctions should be imposed to serve as a deterrent to others who might consider abusing their positions of authority in the future.

It would be recycled that in May 2023 SSANU members had revolted and called for the chairman’s removal, as he was accused of facilitating the diversion of staff allowances under the guise of bringing more allowances to the Union and that the matter was swept under the carpet by the past vice Chancellors even after a plethora of petition were written against him.
