FEDERAL Government College Warri Old Students Association (FEGOCOWOSA), has promised to launch a N1billion endowment fund for the rehabilitation of their alma mater, as part of their contributions to the development of the country’s education sector.
Addressing journalists in Abuja to mark FEGOCOWOSA Golden Jubilee Celebration (1966-2016), the association’s National President, Chief Chyna Iwuanyanwu, said over 500 eminent old students of the school from across the globe have already registered to attend the fundraiser and will be converging on the country for a weeklong celebration starting from February 22nd.
‘’For the old students of Federal Government College Warri, the Golden Jubilee Celebration is ‘’pay-back time’’ to the great college.
He called on Nigerians to join hands with the association to ensure that government at all levels pay attention more to public secondary schools than private ones.
‘’Public schools students speak, talk and walk Nigeria, They are even cheaper than the private schools we have today and they inculcate discipline and patriotism. We are advocating that we should go back to public schools and discourage private schools without further delay.’’
In his remarks, the Chairman, Abuja branch of the association, Kenneth Monwuba, who said, ‘’Public schools will better look after the children, added that “the association is ready to assist government to fund federal secondary schools through donations and rehabilitation of obsolete infrastructures.’’
