FG digitises authentication and evaluation of academic credentials.

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the full digitisation of the authentication and evaluation process for academic credentials, in a move aimed at strengthening transparency, improving data management, and curbing certificate fraud.

In a statement issued on April 15, 2026, by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the initiative was described as part of the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation agenda within the education sector.

According to the ministry, the newly introduced system automates all processes related to the verification of academic credentials, ensuring improved efficiency, data integrity, and support for evidence-based policy decisions.

“With the introduction of the new system, all applications for authentication and evaluation of academic credentials will now be processed strictly online through the ministry’s official verification portal,” the statement read.

Applicants seeking verification services are required to register and upload all relevant supporting documents via the designated online platform.

The ministry also directed applicants to contact their respective institutions to ensure that academic transcripts are forwarded directly from official institutional email addresses for processing.

The ministry emphasised that physical visits for credential verification are no longer required, as the entire process has been fully automated.

It added that the transition to a digital platform is expected to simplify procedures, reduce processing time, and enhance the credibility of academic credential verification in Nigeria.

The development is widely seen as part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to address the persistent challenge of certificate forgery and restore confidence in Nigeria’s academic certification system.

The ministry advised all applicants to comply strictly with the outlined guidelines to ensure seamless and timely processing of their applications.
