The Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo in Gombe State, has pledged to reposition the institution to better serve Nigeria’s industrial and technological needs.
The newly appointed chairman of the Council, Dr. Yusuf Muhammad, made the pledge during an interactive session with management, staff and students of the institution.
He said the council would revamp the polytechnic with focus on infrastructure, staff welfare and academic excellence.
Dr. Muhammad described Polytechnics as “indispensable to Nigeria’s industrial and technological aspirations,” noting that they remain critical to middle-level manpower development and national growth.
He stressed the need for sustained investment in technical education opining that the country’s quest for technological advancement cannot be achieved without well-funded and properly equipped technical institutions.
“We are partners in progress. Everything we do is to improve and make things work better”, he assured the staff and students.
Dr. Muhammad said the Council had taken note of concerns raised by staff unions and the students, adding that the engagement would strengthen dialogue, transparency and unity within the institution.
He commended the Rector, Dr. Ibrahim Babale Gashua, and the management team for maintaining a cordial relationship with staff unions.
He also applauded students for their discipline and commitment.
The council chairman further reassured the Polytechnic community of support for projects and policies that would improve infrastructure, staff welfare and student experience.
Staff and student representatives, who spoke at the event, thanked Dr. Muhammad for his leadership and said his visit had boosted morale and commitment to the institution’s growth.
In a related development, Dr. Muhammad inspected completed and ongoing projects at both the permanent and take-off sites of the Polytechnic where he expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and urged contractors to adhere strictly to specifications and timelines.
