In its bid to support indigent children and families as the new academic session begins, a non-governmental organisation, Weep Not Child initiative, has donated learning materials to indigent pupils and schools in Isaba community, in Ikole local government area of Ekiti State.
The organisation, through its back-to-school programme, distributed bags, notebooks, writing materials, and other essential items to indigent pupils and students in the community as part of its efforts to assist families.
Speaking on the initiative, the founder, Mr Oluwole Alabi, said the initiative was to complement the government’s efforts at making education free for all, and ensure that no child is left behind.
He said: “We have a responsibility to support the government in its task of ensuring that no child is left out-of-school. Government alone cannot do it, we have a responsibility to contribute our quota and this is what our organisation is doing.”
He decried the increasing number of out-of-school children, saying that with the provision of teaching and learning tools, many who had stayed away will return to school. He called on well-meaning Nigerians to support the government by contributing their share to the country’s upliftment.
