ODA launches initiative to boost teacher quality, learning outcomes

Osun Development Association (ODA)

The Osun Development Association (ODA) has unveiled the Teacher Transformation and Empowerment Initiative (TTEI), a landmark project aimed at strengthening public education in the state by empowering teachers.
The initiative was launched at the association’s 30th anniversary gala, which brought together top indigenes, new inductees, and stakeholders to celebrate the milestone and give back to the state and country through projects and outreaches.

The TTEI is a legacy project designed to invest in the foundation of society, – education – and it is anchored on four pillars: pedagogy, educational leadership, tech integration, and modulated continuous education and capacity development.

The goal is to empower 5,000 public school teachers across the state, with the first phase expected to be completed within nine months.

Speaking at the launch, ODA Chair, Dr Segun Aina, emphasised that no meaningful education reform can succeed without strengthening and improving the lot of teachers who shape learning.

“The quality of education cannot rise above the quality of teaching, and the classroom that must first be fixed is the one inside the teacher,” he said.

Prof. Hakeem Zubair, who unveiled the initiative, explained that TTEI will be implemented in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation, 1Million Teachers (1MT), a globally respected teacher development group serving educators across Nigeria and multiple countries worldwide. 1MT will serve as the technical and implementing partner, providing training, a learning platform, a support structure, and a professional development pathway.
The initiative has the support of key stakeholders, including the Osun State Government (Ministry of Education) and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT).

A major feature of TTEI is teacher motivation, with participants receiving incentives for progress, recognition for excellence, and opportunities to grow into mentors and leaders.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ademola Adeleke, promised to work with the group to improve the educational standard of students, teachers, and schools in the state. He was represented by his Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr Bunmi Jenyo.

The anniversary gala also saw the induction of 27 new members, and the honouring of present and past state governors, leaders, members, and young achievers.
Aina expressed optimism that the initiative would endure beyond administrations and policies.
