
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has tasked the new Education Minister, Tunji Alausa, on the need to prevent incessant strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other unions in the country’s tertiary institutions.
The body also canvassed sustainable university funding and improved welfare for educators.
The Clerk of the Senate, Abdulyekini Odunayo, urged the new minister to speed up measures of enhancing qualitative education, focus on curriculum reform, teacher training and innovative learning environments.
Odunayo also tasked the newly appointed Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, to promote an inclusive government by regularly interacting with student leaders and youth organisations, giving priority to programmes that empower young people, encourage entrepreneurship, and create jobs.
The group enjoined the minister to uplift education standard, building on reform initiatives, such as skills development courses, address the lingering issues of ASUU strikes, ensuring sustainable university funding and improved welfare for educators.
