The people of Eastern Obolo council area of Akwa Ibom state has called on the Federal Government and stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to prevail on Amni International Petroleum to respect the provision of Environmental Impact Assessment [EIA] Act of 1992 before embarking on the Okoro Further Field Development Project [OFFDP].

This appealed was made by the Chairman, Traditional Council of the area, Job Job while speaking with journalists at the end of a meeting held at Obolo Hall, the council headquarters.

According to the royal father who was assisted by the community consultant on oil matters, Dr. John Ukpatu, Amni International Petroleum has rebuffed all entreaties by the communities hosting their oil field to continue to maintain the cordial relationship that had existed before, but to no avail.

They recalled that, in one of such meetings, the traditional council had to travel all the way to Niger state where a decision was reached between the community and the stakeholders in the company, but stressed that, till date the company representatives have refused to implement the amicable resolution reached at that meeting.
