A delegation of the Ekiti State government led by the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola had visited the headquarters of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Benin, Edo State to fashion out a modality that will ensure an improvement in the electricity supply to the state.

Olusola, at meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the BEDC, Funke Osibodu and the management team of the company, said stable electricity supply to the state is vital to its socio-economic development.

He highlighted some of the challenges confronting power supply in the state to include the need to energize some of the transformers provided by the state government to some communities as well as making necessary repairs on some faulty transformers.

The Deputy Governor who tasked BEDC to ensure that enough electricity pre-paid metres are made available to consumers so they could pay for the exact power consumed instead of the estimated billing also asked the company to provide new meters to all the Water Dams in the State so that Ekiti People could also pay for the exact volume of water used.

Olusola also called for the input of the electricity distribution company into the Law of the state, which will provide legal platform to punish electricity cable theft and other related vandalism in the state.

In her response, the Chief Executive Officer of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, Funke Osibodu appreciated the visit of the Deputy Governor, which she said will definitely foster a more cordial partnership between the state and the company.
