As part of efforts to improve the state of power generation in Nigeria, engineers under the aegis of Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEE), have called for a paradigm shift to renewable energy, which accounts for the success of many European countries.

This call was made at NIEE’s yearly public symposium, tagged, “Harnessing Renewable Energy Potentials in the Nigerian Built Environment,” as various industry players examined diverse ways by which Nigeria can generate and store power digitally to boost the economy.

In his remarks, the National Chairman, NIEE, John Funsho-Adebayo represented by Ajuyah Silvanus noted that the world is revolving around technological advancements especially in power generation; hence harnessing available resources in the renewables would improve the state of her economy.

He added that until power generation is decentralised and digitised in the country, people will continue to over rely on the grid which is not reliable and conversations around adopting renewables as supplement to the conventional power supply in the country would be stalled.

Chairman, NIEE Lagos chapter, Oloyede Olaosegba, corroborated that Nigeria’s economy can only get better if people appreciate and adopt the use of renewable energy at homes and offices to enhance the state of commercial activities with less stress on capital in Nigeria.
