Firm eyes power potential with new storage solutions

Itel Energy

Itel Energy, a subsidiary of the itel brand, has unveiled two solar energy storage products aimed at addressing electricity instability and high-power costs confronting Nigerian businesses and households.

The firm launched the Commercial and Industrial Energy Storage Solution All-in-One (C&I ESS) and the itel Power Go at an event in Lagos, positioning the products as smart, affordable alternatives to conventional backup power systems.

The C&I ESS features a 50kW hybrid inverter paired with 16kWh stackable high-voltage batteries, while the itel Power Go offers 130W inverter capacity with 320Wh battery storage capacity designed for portability.

Director for West Africa at itel Energy Storage Systems, Louis Liang, said the product launch responds to ongoing grid instability across the country. The C&I system targets small to medium-sized companies seeking to reduce electricity costs, while the Power Go addresses individual power needs.

“According to the situation in West Africa and in Nigeria particularly, there is the instability of NEPA supply. People need a solution to solve two problems: stable light and lower cost,” Liang explained at a press briefing.
“People can live without a phone for one week, but you cannot live without light for even one day. This service is our biggest advantage,” he noted.

The commercial system comes with a five-year warranty for both the inverter and battery components, with the company claiming the battery lifespan could extend to a decade under proper maintenance. The portable Power Go unit carries a one-year warranty but is expected to function for up to three years, depending on usage patterns.

National Distribution Manager for itel Energy, Lucky Ovenseri, emphasised that the products were designed to suit the Nigerian environment, keeping their affordability and mobility in mind. Both systems support dual charging methods through grid power and solar panels, though solar panels must be purchased separately.

He disclosed that the company maintains a network of over 300 certified installers in each state, all trained in installing new products.

He stressed the authenticity of components, particularly battery cells, as a differentiator in a market where product misrepresentation remains common.

Addressing concerns about product authenticity in the renewable energy market, Ovenseri assured that the company maintains strict quality standards.
