Manufacturers in Kano’s Challawa Industrial Area are set to shift from the unreliable national grid to a dedicated 20 megawatts embedded solar power project.
This follows a new partnership between the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), NASENI and Haier Technologies.
NDPHC Managing Director, Jennifer Adighije, led a high-level delegation to the site alongside senior executives and representatives of partner agencies.
The visit follows a directive from Vice President Kashim Shettima in December 2024 for urgent power intervention in the area.
Speaking with local business owners, Adighije said the project would provide affordable, reliable electricity, tapping into Kano’s solar potential.
“We must turn our solar resources into solutions that drive growth,” she said.
She also encouraged industrialists to form buyer groups and take advantage of Nigeria’s new electricity trading structure, allowing them to purchase power directly from NDPHC at competitive rates.
The project is expected to revitalise Kano’s manufacturing base and serve as a model for industrial power solutions nationwide.
